Menopodcast - Menopause For The 21st Century

Oct 22, 2017

More in depth about the why:

- Age before blonde: Sarah talks about turning 55 and apparently being in Menopause - talks about the wine- and sugar-induced hot flashes, the heart palpitations that came on suddenly and could be part of menopause, but have been told her hormone levels were those of an ovulating woman

- We wonder: is it quantifiable? How much “in menopause” can you be?

- Julia tells her story about having a baby at 44 and now being 50  - she found her body changed after the baby, has not had a period for 2 years, and slowly realized she was probably in menopause. She was feeling hormones were out of whack, felt her life was out of balance. The Murderous Rage is born. Dr. prescribed hormone replacement therapy - estrogen patch and progesterone pills - is wanting to get a follow-up with her dr. Wondering if an Endocrinologist would be appropriate?

- first time we hear “Koo-Koo Bananas” (and it won't be the last)

Disclaimer: we are not doctors; do not take what we say as medical advice!

  • Sarah reflects that during heart episode not one of the doctors said “Menopause” until the cardiologist
  • Origin stories - we reflect on when we started our periods - Julia started at age 11 - early developer - how her Mom wanted to tell Grandma! And how mortifying it was to her.
  • Sarah was 12 and they discuss learning how to use tampons - her dad wanted to have a party to celebrate - and of she wanted to die - teenage girls are embarrassed , how could they not be!
  • We are going to be open about menopause
  • Launch of “How Hot was Your Flash?” Sarah has a hot flash even in an air-conditioned room in the middle of the night. Julia’s better at sleeping through the night
